Gift from Qatar: Trump is expected to accept a luxury Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from the ruling family of Qatar during his Middle East travels this week, multiple outlets have reported. The craft could be converted into a presidential aircraft and then transferred to the foundation overseeing his planned presidential library. Details >
Legal concerns: The Constitution’s Emoluments Clause bars anyone holding government office from accepting any present, emolument, office or title from any “King, Prince, or foreign State,” without congressional consent.
The potential gift has sparked concern from Democrats, with U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., calling the situation “premium foreign influence with extra legroom.” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt decried the idea that Trump would use his upcoming trip to boost his family business, telling the media it was “ridiculous” to suggest Trump “is doing anything for his own benefit.” Latest politics news >
