(NewsNation) — Walmart is expanding its 10% employee grocery discount program to cover nearly all groceries in the store for its approximately 1.6 million U.S. employees, according to a memo from Walmart Chief People Officer Donna Morris obtained by CNBC.
The Walmart Associate Discount Card program will now apply to 95% of regularly priced products, including dairy products, frozen foods, meats, seafood and more, according to an announcement on LinkedIn by Kieran Shanahan, EVP and chief operating officer of Walmart U.S.
The discount program, previously exclusive to fresh produce and general merchandise, was only applicable to all groceries during the holidays. Now, the expanded benefits will be offered year-round following 90 days of employment.
“We’ve heard your feedback that these savings make a real difference for you and your families,” Morris said in the memo. “And we have continued to hear that you would like to see this benefit expanded.”
The expanded discounts were immediately implemented following their announcement Aug. 13.
