(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump’s face could soon be on a $1 coin, according to officials with the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
On Friday, Treasurer Brandon Beach confirmed that the department was considering minting a new $1 coin and that drafts were being made in a post on X.
“No fake news here. These first drafts honoring America’s 250th Birthday and @POTUS are real,” Beach wrote. “Looking forward to sharing more soon, once the obstructionist shutdown of the United States government is over.”
Beach reshared another social media post that showed images of the drafts. One image showed a side profile of Trump’s face, while another showed him with an American flag behind him, his fist raised, and the words “FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT” above his head.
In spokesperson for the department told POLITICO in a statement that “while a final $1 dollar coin design has not yet been selected to commemorate the United States’ semiquincentennial, this first draft reflects well the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, even in the face of immense obstacles.”
