(NewsNation) β Though Coca-Cola has confirmed U.S. cane sugar will soon be part of its trademark beverage in America, that will not be the case for Diet Coke.
According to Coca-Cola’s website, Diet Coke contains carbonated water, caramel color, aspartame, phosphoric acid, potassium benzoate, natural flavors, citric acid and caffeine.
The company didnβt elaborate whether the revamped Coca-Cola drink would be different from βMexican Coke,β which is made with cane sugar and is already sold in the U.S. at a premium.
President Donald Trump last week announced the company would opt toΒ use sugar rather than the cheaper high-fructose corn syrup.
According to theΒ Department of Agriculture, cane sugar is derived directly or indirectly fromΒ sugarcane, a tall perennial grass that grows in tropical and semitropical climates.
High-fructose corn syrupΒ is a sweetener derived from corn starch that is broken down into glucose, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
