(WHTM) — Tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians are expected to receive “good news” letters in the mail later this year.
The Pennsylvania Treasury says it will send 80,000 checks to residents with unclaimed property that will be returned to them.
Pennsylvanians who qualify for the state’s Money Match program are set to receive the letters. The Treasury says letters are expected to arrive in mailboxes in September.
According to the Treasury Department, Money Match, a law that was unanimously supported by the General Assembly and signed by Governor Josh Shapiro last year, is a new way for the Treasury to return unclaimed property to its rightful owners.
Money Match allows the Treasury to automatically return properties worth up to $500 after an identification process.
The Treasury says one in ten Pennsylvanians has unclaimed property, which can come in the form of old bank accounts, uncashed paychecks, insurance payments, and more. Claims can be submitted through the website.
For anyone who lives outside Pennsylvania, you can check if you have any unclaimed money on your own state website or at missingmoney.com and unclaimed.org.
